Seeking litigation to protect the interests and integrity of public education has become a necessary interest of ACSA and its members. As a result of this, as well as increased requests from members and local education agencies, ACSA created the Education Legal Support Fund (ELSF) in 2006. Contribute today!

In the 2015-2016 regular session of the California State legislature, nearly 5,000 pieces of legislation were introduced, with ACSA’s Governmental Relations team tracking 1,200 legislative measures. More than half of those bills were passed to the governor for his signature or veto. This report will provide highlights of a number of high priority education policy issues that rose to the forefront in 2016, in addition to bills that ACSA was able to influence in order to achieve amendments to improve them.

Over 500 ACSA members responded to our request to contact their Assembly Member and Senator to oppose AB 2835 (Cooper) regarding union orientation helping to defeat the measure for this year.

Starting in 2016, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) will become available on October 1, 2016. Students entering college in fall 2017, can begin submitting their FAFSA on this date.
