Transforming Secondary School Teaching Through Principal and Teacher Professional Learning Communities

This highly interactive workshop will build upon and clarify how principals, assistant principals and teachers can utilize observation and professional learning communities to assess and impact student engagement and student achievement.  Participants will look at the tools and protocols that the case study departments utilized. Participants will self-assess their  learning communities and plan next steps.  By the end of this session participants will identify concrete next steps to add more rigor to observation, feedback, and collaboration in their secondary settings.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Engage in dialogue regarding the theory and research that are the foundation of the PLC movement
  • Understand the six core characteristics of effective PLC's
  • Analyze a variety of video and document-based case studies of high school PLC's at work
  • Produce an action plan to further site and department PLC's

Number of Hours: 7 hours

Cost of Program: This workshop can be sponsored by districts, region, or county offices for $1575/day plus expenses and materials for group of 6-20, for $2100/day plus expenses and materials for groups of 21-40, and $3150/day plus expenses and materials for groups of 41-60.
