Membership matters to ACSA. That’s more than just a phrase for the association; it’s an ingrained belief, expressed in ACSA’s Vivid Description.
“ACSA will cultivate and mentor California’s administrative leaders,” it states, and “benefits and resources will be available to members any time.” It also states that “90 percent of all school administrators will belong to ACSA, and its membership will be regarded as virtually indispensable.”
A big piece of membership is keeping the association vibrant through the recruitment of new members.
ACSA members are part of a profession that makes a difference in the world through leadership for California students. Members have selected to join a hard working, complex, often under- recognized or celebrated group.
The work of school leadership can be difficult, because leaders have to be “on” 24-7, as the workday never ends. The work administrators do is complex because they must be all things to all stakeholders. And the work isn’t done for recognition, but for making a difference for future generations. These are the people who make ACSA strong.
ACSA President Alice Petrossian shares some of the top reasons she gives prospective members for why they should join ACSA:
• ACSA provides you support to lighten your load, gives you contacts and an amazing network of mentors and coaches who can see you through the difficult times.
• ACSA provides you with EdCal, the first and best place to seek your first, next and last promotional opportunity. EdCal provides you with details that can give you a feel for any position whether you are a “place-bound” or a “career-bound” administrator.
• When you go for a job interview, the questions that are asked can be answered with more depth and expertise by reading EdCal or Leadership. Don’t be caught off guard when asked to discuss political, fiscal and important curriculum and instructional matters during an interview. Remember your interview panel is most likely reading EdCal and Leadership magazine as well.
• When you get that job and the complexities bring you stress, know that there are 14,500 colleagues, all willing to step forward and support and mentor you to success.
• ACSA provides members with professional support and liability insurance in times of fiscal instability.
• ACSA is a strong political voice for the rights of school administrators.
• ACSA provides you with professional development that is meant to meet your needs. You select the program that fits you, and the majority of programs are provided at times and places that best meet your needs. ACSA professional development is now available to you online so that you can access the PD at home or at your office, at a time and place you wish.
• ACSA celebrates the successes of our members at charters, regions and state levels.
