Former ACSA President Alice Petrossian has been selected as 2013 Woman of the Year for the 25th Senate District.

Petrossian was selected by state Senator Carol Liu, D-Glendale. The award recognizes women for their unique and often unsung contributions to enhance the quality of life for others. The recognition coincides with Women’s History Month in March.

“It is a great pleasure to be among the list of honored women,”  Petrossian said. “Senator Liu has been a great friend of ACSA. She was recognized as Legislator of the Year, and I had the privelege as ACSA vice president to present that award and thank her. Now, I will once again have the pleasure of thanking her as I receive the award.”

Petrossian served as ACSA president in 2011-12. She was also president of the NCLB/ESEA Task Force, Region 15 president and member of several ACSA committees and groups, including the Legislative Policy Committee and Women’s Leadership Network Task Force. She retired as chief academic officer of Pasadena USD and had previously served as assistant superintendent in Glendale USD. She has also been appointed to several state boards throughout her 40-plus year career.

Last year, Petrossian received the prestigious national Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which recognizes remarkable Americans who preserve the richness of their particular heritage. In 2005, she received ACSA’s Ferd. Kiesel Memorial Distinguished Service Award.

Petrossian will be formally honored March 15 at a reception in La Canada Flintridge.
