This promotion is also available for members registering via ACSA’s business office using the printed registration form.

The Leadership Summit is ACSA’s premier professional development event. This annual gathering of educators at all levels of administration is a celebration of the profession. The Leadership Summit provides opportunities for invaluable networking and offers professional development on current critical leadership and educational issues.

The theme of this year’s event is “Leadership in a Changing World. Explore. Innovate. Create.” The goal is to inspire school leaders to look ahead to big picture ideas and challenges faced by educators in this new century and to plan proactively for them.

“The idea of the Leadership Summit is to be inspired by others and look at different perspectives,” said George Manthey, ACSA assistant executive director, Educational Services.

Among the exceptionally inspiring features of the conference are:

• Sir Ken Robinson, a truly engaging speaker who understands that “everybody has an interest in education.” He is internationally recognized for his ability to help audiences understand that creativity is key to the success of our world, especially in the realm of learning and teaching.

• Yong Zhao, author of “Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization,”  will discuss the changing face of leadership in a rapidly changing world.

• California National Disting-uished Principal Angel Barrett will talk about the data-driven accountability efforts she has used to exit Program Improvement and increase her school’s API by 372 points.

• Member workshops each day of the conference offer a chance to meet and learn best practices from such successful California education leaders as Evie Groch, a field supervisor/coach from UC Berkeley, ACSA Adult Education Council President Mary Prather, Middle Grades Principal of the Year Kelly Richers, former ACSA president Sandra Carsten, and equity expert Mimi Lufkin.

• The annual ACSA Awards Presentation and President’s Celebration allows summit-goers to honor Administrator of the Year Award recipients and the association’s special award winners at an inspirational and formal evening event.

• Summit-goers will have the option of attending the concurrently running CSU Center for the Advancement of Reading’s Nov. 5 conference keynotes on “Differentiating Instruction” and “Critical Literacy and Urban Youth.”

“It’s your obligation as an ACSA member and to yourself to go to the Leadership Summit at least once,” Manthey said with a grin, adding that this year’s event will be an exceptionally valuable experience.
