School Funding in Crisis: School leaders urged to action
In a new video budget update, ACSA Executive Director Bob Wells calls on school communities to immediately contact federal and state lawmakers to oppose onerous and unfair cuts to schools and to urge support for the federal economic stimulus package that could help prevent such severe cuts for classrooms.
Money from federal stimulus anticipated
ACSA supports the federal economic stimulus package. As the state grapples with its $42 billion budget deficit, education leaders are urged to voice support for the stimulus package, which is estimated to bring roughly $10 billion to California.
ACSA leaders tout stimulus plan in D.C.
ACSA took its support for the federal economic stimulus package to Washington, D.C. Jan. 18-21. President Frank Gomez and Executive Director Bob Wells touted the “Education for the 21st Century” act to lawmakers and education officials, including Linda Darling-Hammond at the U.S. DOE.

The Secondary Literacy Summit IX is scheduled for April 1-2 in Costa Mesa. The summit is designed for middle and high school administrators, teachers and school teams – anyone with an interest in the important topic of secondary literacy.
Waiver request opens eyes to small district test concern
Is it possible for a small school district to receive a waiver in spite of a California Department of Education recommendation for denial? Yes. It happened recently to Alpaugh USD as it successfully appealed a Title 5 regulation to the State Board of Education.
Superintendents invited to PARC for powerful technology dialogue
