Personnel Institute scheduled to be inspirational and informative

Educational administrators in human resources or those aspiring to enter the field of human resources are encouraged to attend one of ACSA’s longest-running professional development opportunities: the Personnel Institute.

ACSA’s 2009 Personnel Institute, “Leadership Matters in Human Resources,” is scheduled to be held Feb. 25-27, 2009 at the Kellogg West Center for Continuing Education on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

This three-day event offers interactive sessions as well as workshops that provide information on a variety of current issues that confront human resources departments, and also the opportunity to network in both the sessions and social settings.

Wednesday, Feb. 25 welcomes general session speaker Brian Shul, who will share his remarkable story of perseverance and triumph.

A former Air Force pilot, Shul was shot down in Vietnam. One year and 15 operations later, he returned to active duty and flew for another 16 years. In 1990, he left the Air Force and began a successful career in writing and photography.

He shares his stunning photography, near-death experience and subtle sense of humor to craft a message of living fearlessly and making the most of each day.

The institute continues with a number of sessions focusing on the hot topics in human resources, presented by attorneys, practicing administrators and other experts in the field.

From reasonable accommodations to succession planning to reclassification and No Child Left Behind compliance, all the issues affecting personnel today will be covered. In addition, sessions will focus on the state budget and layoffs, recent court decisions affecting employment law, and an update on legislation.
