AE conference aims to inspire

ACSA’s 2008 Professional Learning Opportunity for Adult Educators is set for Sept. 24-26 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Sacramento. The event will feature registration beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a lively, 6-8 p.m. reception designed to inspire new friendships and collegial sharing.

Thursday, Sept. 25 will start with registration and exhibits at 8 a.m.; the first general session at 9:30 a.m.; workshop sessions at 11:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.; lunch at 12:30 p.m.; and the second general session at 2 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 26 will continue with the third general session at 9 a.m.; workshops at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.; and lunch at noon.

Nancy Compton, chair of the 2008 conference, reports that the opening general session will feature an energetic, motivational presentation by Roger Crawford, a leading authority on developing human potential and breaking through self-imposed limitations, because he has lived it firsthand. Sports Illustrated called Crawford one of the most accomplished physically challenged athletes in history.

The second general session is schedule to feature Richard Jennings, executive director of the Center for Fathers and Families, a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding struggling families.

At the third general session, attendees will be treated to an inspiring technology presentation by John Fleischman, who always provides an intriguing look into the future and how technology will lead the way, Compton said.

A rich menu of workshops will be offered on both Thursday and Friday, including strands on leadership, technology, professional development, and data/accountability, among others.

“This year we have something special planned: a session called, ‘Meet Your Consultant,’ which will provide an opportunity for those of us in the field to meet with our CDE consultant,” Compton said.

The popular Swap Shop, where attendees share best program materials, brochures, fliers and newsletters, will be in place. And don’t forget to bring a children’s book to be donated to a local literacy program.
