Rental Cars
With the rising cost of gasoline, it may be more cost effective for a Council member to rent a car with unlimited mileage than to claim mileage for a personal automobile. Council members are asked to compare the cost of driving their own car vs. driving a rental car and select the least expensive option. When renting a car under these circumstances, ACSA asks that members rent cars for no longer than a 24-hour period, select the most economical (yet comfortable) vehicle available, rent cars from local rental agencies than at the airport (where rental rates tend to be higher), and return rental cars with a full tank to incur no additional gasoline costs.
Council members are encouraged to book discounted car rental reservations online through discounted travel services such as SideStep (www.sidestep.com), Expedia (www.expedia.com), Orbitz (www.orbitz.com), Travelocity (www.travelocity.com), CheapTickets (www.cheaptickets.com), Hotwire.com (www.hotwire.com), Lowestfare.com (http://lowestfare.com), TravelZoo (www.travelzoo.com), Kayak (www.kayak.com), etc.
