Vice presidents for legislative action are elected from each of ACSA's 19 regions. They are charged with coordinating grassroots positions on legislation and ballot measures, increasing member knowlege and involvement in the legislative process, coordinating regional recommendations for candidate endorsements and maintaining a legislative action network.
VPLA are also involved in letter-writing campaigns, organize ACSA's Legislative Action Day as well as regional and local activities, help coordinate interviews with candidates running for legislative office, and assist in developing recommendations for endorsing candidates.
Political Action
ACSA’s legislative advocacy program includes two political action committees (PACs) that actively endorse or oppose state legislative races, constitutional officers’ races, statewide ballot initiatives, and major issues impacting ACSA members and/or public education. One PAC is dedicated to state candidate races, while the other is focused on issues and ballot initiatives. A portion of ACSA member dues are allocated to support political action activities by the two PACs. The PAC is overseen by a board of directors convened as a separate legal entity from the overall association. Day-to-day activities of the political action program are coordinated by the Assistant Executive Director for Governmental Relations.
